We are excited to announce an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our fantastic engineering team in Range Area Home organization.
In the role as a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of a product development team with an overall responsibility for the mechanical design. You will be expected to secure that our products are designed in an optimal way with strong focus on customer expectations and sustainability at lowest cost. To achieve this, you will have close collaboration with different stakeholders throughout the value chain.
In this assignment your main responsibilities will be:
To develop the mechanical design of products with different materials and functions related to the Home-organization range, from concept sketch to final product.
Lead implementation of IKEA platforms and standardized materials.
Secure that mechanical requirements are covered by the product design.
Create, maintain and develop 3D and 2D documentation according to IKEA CAD standard.
Evaluate constructions with Calculations and (FEM) simulations before testing on prototypes.
Capture learnings, share knowledge, and communicate with other functions across Range Areas and Matrix organization.
Some occasional travel and supplier visits may be required for the role.

Qualifications


We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating the best possible product for the customer at the right price, with the right quality, a beautiful design, and with a clear focus on sustainability.
We believe that you have:
University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
You are driven to come up with new and innovative solutions.
Material and production knowledge in a variety of materials, including metals, plastic, and textiles.
Construction knowledge (Mechanical design, geometric dimensioning, tolerancing, simulation, drawing techniques and 3D modeling).
Knowledge using Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs and product lifecycle management systems such as SolidWorks and Windchill.

For this position we highly value great communication skills and the ability to lead yourself to make things happen.
To be successful in this role you also need to have both analytical and creative skills and the ability to transfer knowledge, concepts, and ideas into technical product designs and solutions.

The position is in Älmhult, Sweden. Älmhult has commuting possibilities with hourly trains to Malmö, Lund and Växjö and an IKEA shuttle bus back and forth to Helsingborg three times a day. As Packaging Solution Engineer, you will be part of a product development team with an overall responsibility for the packaging solutions. You will be expected to secure that our products reach our customers homes neat and clean in all our sales channels. As a Requirement & Design Engineer (RDE) you will be working with a great team and this is a creative assignment where you will need to get involved, look for opportunities and gaps, investigate the unknown, using your skills to take the design from ideation through concept generation, development and optimization and deliver ready to use solutions, fully verified in simulations and testing. You will work with both new development and improvements of the existing range by proactively searching for opportunities to challenge known patterns. Job Description
In this role, as Packaging Solution Engineer (PSE), you will develop, document and improve the optimal packaging solution for BA CHILI and HFB 9 Childreens IKEA in specific. The guiding principles for your work is all aspects of Democratic Design and total value chain throughout the product lifecycle. This is done in close cooperation with product developers, engineers, suppliers and store co-workers, to ensure that the solutions will work all the way from the supplier to the customer in an omni channel environment. Sustainability is high on the agenda with plastic free packaging.
As a Packaging Solution Engineer you will:
Work with multiple product areas (PA) both within market hall and furniture
Develop, Secure and verify that the solution is meeting all packaging requirements
Keep the documentation updated and correct according to IKEA Documentation Guideline and standards
Find packaging improvement potentials and give input to action plan
Capturing learnings, sharing knowledge, and communicating in BA and Matrix dimension

Qualifications
We are looking for you who are passionate about creating the best packaging solution for the customer at the right price, with the right quality, with beautiful design and with a clear focus on sustainability. We believe that you have an education within engineering as well as theoretical and practical background within packaging and its impact of the value chain - from raw material to the co-worker and customer perspective.
You have knowledge in packaging construction in terms of drawing technique, technical solutions and design for manufacturing. Furthermore, you have knowledge in packaging requirements and global packaging test methods and standards. To succeed in this role you need to master SolidWorks and Artios CAD as tools in your work.

You will be part of a product development team with an overall responsibility for the packaging solutions, to secure that our products reach our stores neat and clean in all our sales channels. Our packaging solutions are and has always been an important part of our business. 

You will work in close co-operation with different stakeholders throughout the value chain as well as throughout the product lifecycle. This is done with a continuous improvement and right from the beginning approach, and always with a strong customer focus.  

As Packaging Solution Engineer you will:

•    be responsible to develop, optimize, improve and document packaging solutions based on set standards and guidelines, always with a continuous improvement approach and a strong customer focus
•    be responsible to verify that the packaging solution comply with set requirements and customer needs
•    work in close co-operation with stakeholders throughout the value chain to identify needs, requirements, limitations and opportunities so that our packaging solutions always meet the needs and changes in Supply Chain, sales solutions and selling patterns.
